The London Look

The London Look photography competition, a collaboration between the Horniman Museum and lifestyle and culture website Londonist, attracted over 350 entries from both professional and amateur photographers. Participants were asked to consider the varied style of Londoners, and capture the essence of the city through street photography, either spontaneous or posed. It was a pleasure to view and discuss the shortlisted submissions with fellow judges on 10 August 2012.

Congratulations to the fourteen finalists including Pete Zelewski and Robbie Ewing for their winning photographs. Zelewski’s portrait of economics student Mishael (shown above) was taken just off of Old Compton Street in London’s Soho, which has been the focus of his long-term project ‘The People of Soho‘. Ewing’s photograph (shown below) was taken near Charing Cross on the day of the Olympic Torch relay event on 26 July 2012. The fourteen photographs will be on display in the Gallery Square of the Horniman Museum from 1-30 September.
